FAQs

A fertility specialist, is a medical doctor who specialises in diagnosing and treating issues related to fertility and reproductive health. You should consider seeing a fertility specialist if you have been actively trying to conceive for over a year (or six months if you’re over 35) without success, have a known reproductive health issue, or have concerns about your fertility.

During your initial consultation, I will review your medical history and family history, discuss any concerns or questions you may have and also ensure that I customise your treatment to your needs, whether its to do with your anatomy, religious requirements or comfort level. I may also recommend further diagnostic tests to identify any underlying issues affecting your fertility.

I offer a range of treatments tailored to each individual’s needs, including self-insemination, ovulation induction, fertility preservation, IVF, IUI, ICSI and other assisted reproductive technologies (ART). The appropriate treatment will depend on factors such as the cause of infertility, age, personal preferences and cost.

Success rates for fertility treatments can vary depending on various factors, including the age of the patient, the cause of infertility, and the type of treatment used. I will provide you with personalised information about the expected success rates based on your specific circumstances.

Yes, certain lifestyle changes can positively impact fertility, such as maintaining a healthy BMI, quitting smoking, limiting alcohol intake, managing stress, and following a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Your fertility specialist can provide personalised recommendations based on your specific situation.

While fertility treatments are generally safe, they may carry some risks and side effects, such as multiple pregnancies, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), and the risk of ectopic pregnancy. If at risk, I will discuss this with you and monitor your progress closely throughout treatment to minimise risk of potential complications.

Yes, seeking a second opinion is entirely understandable and often encouraged, especially if you have concerns or uncertainties about your diagnosis or treatment plan. I will support you in obtaining a second opinion and can provide relevant medical records or test results to the other specialist as needed. If you are coming to see me for a second opinion, I would be more than happy to discuss your treatment with you; it often helps to have a copy of your medical history, results and treatment history.

To make the most of your appointment, it’s helpful to gather any relevant medical records, including previous fertility evaluations or test results, and write down any questions or concerns you have beforehand. We recommend that partners attend the consultation, if involved. If you are single, or not wanting to involve a partner, it is perfectly acceptable to bring support person with you for support during the appointment.
